Hypertension

Hypertension – colloquially known as high blood pressure – is a long term medical condition in which the blood pressure is persistently elevated. Chronic high blood pressure is dangerous, being a risk factor for coronary artery disease, stroke, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, peripheral vascular disease, vision loss, chronic kidney disease, and dementia.

Hypertension may often have no easily identifiable cause; though it can be controlled via a combination of medication and lifestyle changes.

Because blood pressure is so closely tied to proper kidney function, Knoxville Kidney Center takes a particular interest in the treatment of hypertension, offering the following services:

  • Evaluation for causes
  • Management
  • Targeting acceptable goals while minimizing adverse side effects and drug interactions
