Chronic high blood pressure is dangerous, being a risk factor for coronary artery disease, stroke, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, peripheral vascular disease, vision loss, chronic kidney disease, and dementia.
Hypertension may often have no easily identifiable cause; though it can be controlled via a combination of medication and lifestyle changes.
